Short-term Parking –
This project looks at where it might be appropriate to have additional parking meters installed on and near Church Street. It was initiated by local businesses who need spaces to turn over more frequently near shops, the park and school. UNN requested that Hank Willson, SFMTA Policy Manager for Parking and Curb Management join us to offer expertise and help us in our community discussion. There is at this time no plan in place, just ideas.
Our community has shown strong support for a thriving commercial area. This is one way to prevent the loss of businesses and encourage filling empty storefronts Meters are the most effective way to open up parking spots for short-term usage. Reasonable additional short-term parking can be realized by installing parking meters in some, perhaps a third, of the angled parking on Day Street (5 of 15 spaces available) and on 29th Street (6 of 18 spaces available), and a handful of meters on the east side of Church Street: 5 in front of Laurel Realty and 2 in front of Lehr’s.

Supervisor Mandelman –
- Recently elected as president of the board of Supervisors.
- Has two years remaining in his term.
- Safety Town Hall – Supervisor Rafael Mandelman hosted a town hall on Monday January 13 at Noe Valley Ministry with District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, SFPD Mission Station Captain Liza Johansen, Ingleside Station Captain Amy Hurwitz, and DEM Director of Street Response Coordination Sam Dodge to discuss public safety, and street conditions.
- 5 new supervisors on BOS, new Mayor
- The attitude in City Hall is more hopeful now amongst the supervisors and Mayor
- Lurie has reorganized the Mayor’s office, 4 new deputy mayors. Good people.
- City Attorney David Chiu is getting ready for unending lawsuits against the federal govt.
- Lurie has declared a Fentanyl emergency
- Budget situation is terrible, $800M+ deficit over next two years. Not great.
- Traffic enforcement has been very lacking recently. Mandelman continues to ask SFPD to step up enforcement. SFPD has responded with more pedestrian safety operations in Upper Noe.
- Prop 1, $6.5B statewide bond for homelessness and mental illness. Counties end up paying for this, it’s very expensive. Mandelman held hearings about this for the past year.
